Beginning at the top of the stairs measure a stair tread or landing and transfer the measurement to the back of a piece of carpet with marker or chalk.

Near both ends of the tackless strip staple the runner into the crease where riser meets tread.
Place the bottom part of each pair of brackets either side of the runner adjacent to the carpet edge and in the angle where the tread joins the riser.

Staple each edge of the runner 2 inches above bottom of riser.
