Put the torn edges together and attach the duct tape.
Fixing a torn carpet.
Lay the piece on top of the donor carpet.
Sew stitches of one inches so that he torn part closes.
Use a fairly wide stitch about an inch or two to avoid placing unnecessary stress or strain on the seam.
Fold back the carpet far enough in exposing the area under the torn area of carpet.
Turn a carpet remnant face down and measure a patch for the carpeting using the measurements obtained earlier as a guideline.
Apply extra pressure all around the edges of the new piece working the fibers into the surrounding carpet.
Lightly tap the nails or tacks into the floor with a hammer.
Ensure that the stitches are not visible.
Simply duct tape the torn area together from the back of the rug.
Nail the tacks at least six inches away from the torn edges of the carpet.
Mark the lines of the patch with the pencil and then use a utility knife or carpet cutter to cut out the patch.
Take the damaged piece that you cut out over to your donor carpet area.
Again try to make this look as natural as possible.
Brush away small dust particles and loose fibers.
Put the stitches a quarter of inches apart at the back of the carpet.
Insert the replacement piece once the carpet tape is firmly in place turn the repair piece so its arrow is pointing in the same direction as the arrow near the cut out area and press it firmly into the opening.
Now you have to fold back the ripped carpet as much as tear appears and make a line of seam adhesive tape along the bottom carpet tear edges so that that you can put the carpet back down and push it into actual place.
Put the carpet back down and push it into place.
Fold back the torn carpet as much as the tear allows and run a line of latex seam adhesive along the bottom edge of the tear.
Use the top piece as a template and draw around it with the awl or pen.
Use the utility knife if you need to cut the old tape at the end of the seam.
Similar to the previous step cut out the donor carpet making sure that you cut the backing without cutting tufts.
Start method of carpet damage repair by putting a small slide or flat edged tool such as a ruler underneath your carpet and lift the torn edge to fix it.
Sew the carpet back together using a curved upholstery needle with a monofilament as your thread.
