The solutions necessary are also toxic so you should handle them with care. Others require polishing with a buffing pad or burnishing machine. In general steel wool should not be used on hardwood. Floor buffing machines generally operate under high speeds which can cause serious personal injury. You may want to buff your floors instead of sanding them if the finish of the floor is looking dull and scratched. If you don t want to track down specialized equipment simply use a clean dry terry cloth towel to polish your floor with a circular motion.

The presence of these substances will inhibit the buffing process on your hardwood installation.
